Toolkit FAQ

How do I get started with teaching a workshop?

Order your Find Your Drive Teaching Toolkit here, and check out our online tutorials to see photos and videos of the workshop activities in action.

Start thinking about:

  • Workshop time, date, and location

  • Who else can you teach this workshop with? (We recommend 3-4 facilitators)

And then spread the word! Tag us on Facebook, Twitter (@GirlsDrivingFor, #GirlsDrivingFor), and Instagram (@girlsdrivingforadifference) so we can help promote your event.

Do you offer any scholarships for organizations or schools who cannot afford the cost of the toolkits?

Fill out our scholarship form, and then shoot us an email. We want our workshops to be accessible to as many people as possible, so we’ll do our best to subsidize what we can.

What's the difference between the Find Your Drive and Make Your Mark workshops?

Find Your Drive (FYD) is Part 1 of our workshop series, and Make Your Mark (MYM) is Part 2.

In the Find Your Drive workshop, girls identify their strengths, discover their unique leadership abilities, and come up with their own personal mission statement for improving the world.

In the Make Your Mark workshop, girls learn how to make their mission statements a reality through design thinking. They brainstorm ideas, create physical prototypes of their favorite solution, and come up with an action plan and next steps for how they can implement their ideas in real life—at their schools and in their communities.

We recommend that you teach both workshops together, back-to-back. You can start by teaching FYD, and then when you're ready, add in MYM.

How long does it take to prepare for the workshop?

It depends! The standard is 5 weeks, starting from when you receive your toolkit. If you already have a workshop location in mind, and students that you can easily recruit to attend the event, you're ahead of the game.

What's inside the teaching toolkits?

The FYD toolkit is a physical "workshop in a box" that comes with teaching materials for up to 40 students per workshop, including:

  • 3 Facilitation Guidebooks

  • 4 Leadership Quiz Card sets

  • 4 Leadership Quiz Answer Key sets

  • 1 deck of Activity Strength cards

The MYM toolkit is a digitally downloadable set of materials that covers all the info you'll need to prepare for and teach the MYM workshop, including:

  • To-Do List and Key Details

  • Facilitation Guidebook (PDF): A 7-page booklet with photos and step-by-step instructions for each activity

  • Workshop Packet (PDF): A 5-page packet that each student will need printed out for workshop day

Is there anything else I should buy for the workshop?

Yes, just a few things:

  • Green, blue, and pink post-its

  • Sharpies

  • Easel pad posters and/or butcher paper

  • Snacks! Girls love snacks!

For the Make Your Mark workshop, you'll also need a mix of materials that students can use to prototype their ideas (like construction paper, play-doh, scissors, and tape or glue).

What kind of space should I use to teach the workshop?

It could be a classroom, company office space, or even someone's home/backyard. It just needs to be a big enough space for students to move around, ideally with wall-space where students can put their post-its up. It's also great to include tables and chairs for teamwork.

Does the toolkit come in different languages?

It's in English, but the words are easy to translate into different languages. We can work with you to translate the materials if you're willing to put in a little extra effort. Email us at hello@girl-possible.org to learn more.

Do you have any marketing materials or flyers I can use?

You bet. Here's our flyer. It's a google doc, so you can make a copy of it online and then customize it for your workshop time, date, contact info, etc.

Is this workshop OK for boys, too?

The workshop was originally designed with girls in mind. All the workshop materials are gender-neutral (they/them/their) and we've taught co-ed/mixed workshops in the past. We know that every group, school, and community is different. Do what feels right for yours!

Can I charge $ for students to attend the workshop?

By offering this workshop for free, you can ensure that it's 100% accessible for all students. However, charging a small fee can give students an extra incentive to show up on workshop day, and help offset the costs of purchasing the toolkit and preparing materials. It's up to you!

What should I do after the workshop?

Fill out this quick feedback survey to tell us how the workshop went and share tips/advice that we can pass onto future workshop coaches. We read every response we receive and will use your input to make our program better.

If possible, collect students' emails so you can keep in touch. You’ll be a great mentor and resource for students to continue the work they started after the workshop.

Are there other GP workshop leaders I can connect with to learn more?

Absolutely. If you'd like to chat with a GP workshop leader in your area, email us and we'd be delighted to connect you. Our coaches can be found throughout the US and in the UK, Italy, South Africa, Germany, Japan, and Australia.
